Antiques Sold during the Holiday Season, 2024

What a busy winter! Over the last few months we have had to say goodbye to so many fascinating pieces around the store, so we've compiled a collection of some of our favorite finds! Featured below are those that were toughest to see go, along with some additional information on each piece.

Hayden's Geological and Geographical Atlas of Colorado and Portions of Adjacent Territory, First Edition of Twenty Maps, 1877

$7,500
One of the most beautiful collections of maps I have seen, this gorgeous volume was a fully intact series of vibrant depictions of F.V. Hayden’s 1876 Survey of Colorado and its Surrounding Territories. It is truly shocking how colorful these maps are for lithographs nearly 150 years old!

A Sermon Preached Before John Hancock, Senate, and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, October 25, 1780 by Samuel Cooper, First Edition, 1780

$2,000

One of the most fascinating pamphlets we have come across, this little booklet was privately printed for those who were interested in its contents. This contained a transcribed sermon preached by Reverend Samuel Cooper in front of John Hancock, on the day of Massachusetts's Constitution being ratified.

Doolittle's Tokyo Raiders by Carroll V. Glines, Signed by 30 Pilots including Jimmy Doolittle, 1964

$4,500

Featuring over 30 signatures of the Flying Tigers, including Jimmy Doolittle himself, this book was a treat to have in the shop. It details the story of the raid that won Doolittle his Medal of Honor, and includes multiple photographs throughout the book. Fans of Doolittle would be interested in checking out our signature collage of his

George Washington Portrait in Wooden Porthole Frame, Mid 19th Century

$750

A very fun find, this miniature painting of George Washington was a fan favorite amongst our shelves. Presented in the original frame, with a tiny artist signature visible amongst the outer edge, this delightful art piece didn’t last very long!

"George Washington at Dorchester Heights" after Gilbert Stuart, Unsigned Oil-on-Canvas Painting

$15,500

On the other end of the spectrum, this show stopping oil portrait of Washington was hard to watch as it left the shop. Done after the stylings of Gilbert Stuart, this portrait was a gorgeous unsigned rendition of the 1806 George Washington at Dorchester Heights.

Abraham Lincoln Signed Military Commission, Dated September 9, 1861

$18,500

Another fan favorite, this original 1861 Army Cavalry Commission Document holds quite the story. Featured in this blog post, the Lincoln-signed document marks the beginning of young Joseph Audenried's military career.

13-Star American Parade Flag, 1860

$14,500
Designed with the desirable “Third Maryland” star pattern, this 13-star flag dating to the Civil-War era belonged to a New York City chapter of the Grand Army of the Republic. As seen at the top, the Lafayette Post No. 40 at one time had ownership of this piece, most likely to continue education on the Civil War.

The Hobbit or There and Back Again by J.R.R. Tolkien, First American Edition, 1938

$13,500
A true gem in the shop, this First American Edition of the Hobbit went home with a very happy Tolkien fan! Profusely illustrated with watercolor and pen drawn images created by J. R. R. Tolkien himself, this was a delight to present to all the Lord of the Rings lovers who stopped in. Be sure to keep an eye out for more Tolkien on our shelves soon!

Profiles in Courage by John F. Kennedy Sr., Inscribed to Rev. Albert Shea, in Original Dust Jacket, 1956

$9,000
An incredibly desirable volume, this book was signed and inscribed by President Kennedy. It flew off the shelf the same week we put it on display, however, we do currently have another first edition (sans signature) available for purchase.

An American Life, Signed by Ronald Reagan, First Edition in Original Dust Jacket, 1990

$3,250
Another sought-after volume, this book lasted on our shelves about as long as Kennedy’s Profiles in Courage. Signed and inscribed by President Reagan, we hope to acquire another similar piece soon!

Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen, Illustrated by Hugh Thomson, First Peacock Edition, 1894

$6,000
This absolutely stunning edition of Pride and Prejudice was published in 1894 as the first “Peacock” edition during the Victorian invigoration of Jane Austen’s works. Complete with its original gilt detailed boards and profusely decorated with ornate illustrations, this luxurious copy was a fantastic piece.
