He dedicates the book ''To those soldiers who must often have wondered WHY they were going where they did. Perhaps this will help answer their questions.''

Published in 1951 by Henry Holt & Co, in New York, this book is signed and inscribed by Bradley on the title page  The inscription reads, “For Mr. Jim Seward. With cordial good wishes. Omar N. Bradley" in blue ink. The book is illustrated throughout with photographs and numerous maps.

A Soldier's Story recounts the battles of World War II from a soldier's perspective. General Omar Nelson Bradley was a senior officer of the United States Army during and after World War II. Bradley was considered "the soldiers' general— modest, industrious, above intrigue, the skilled tactician and strategist who had stood at Eisenhower's right hand in Tunisia, Sicily, and Normandy during World War II and who, before his retirement from active duty, had become Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff" (Drew Middleton, New York Times). A Soldier's Story is a compelling and vivid memoir from one of the greatest military tacticians of our time.
