Antique Belgian "Royal Theater Circle & Dutch Cultural Society" Medal on Faceted Aquamarine Necklace
This antique Belgian “Royal Theater Circle & Dutch Cultural Society” medal has been fashioned into a necklace by vintage jewelry designers, Intellectual Property. The medal dates to 1920-1930.
The elaborately designed medal features a Belgian lion at its center and is crowned at top. A scrolling banner at top and center is engraved in raised relief with Dutch text: “Koninklijke Toneelkring Trouw aan Kunst” which translates to “Royal Theatre Society Faithful to Art”. The town name “Hamme” is also engraved in raised relief at the bottom of the medal, followed by the text “Gesticht in 1892” indicating the Society was founded in Hamme, Belgium in 1892. The reverse of the medal is engraved with the dates “1920 - 1930” and the text “Hulde aaan Mariette Borremans” which translates to “Tribute to Mariette Borremans.” The charm is presented on a strand of faceted aquamarine stones with a sterling silver toggle.
Searching the braderies and antique shops throughout Europe, the founders of Intellectual Property, Mary and Hallie, specialize in finding unique antique medals and transforming them into one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry. Their designs highlight the legacy and integrity of the original pieces, artfully bringing the past into the present.
