Frank Lloyd Wright Signature Collage
Presented is an original Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation bank check, signed by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The check is dated March 1, 1954, payable to Iovanna lloyd Wright for $30.00. A fantastic association piece, this check was filled out partially with a typewriter as well as signed in ink by Frank Lloyd Wright himself, payable to his own daughter.
Frank Lloyd Wright was a highly influential American architect (1867-1959) whose mastery of space, form, and human-centered design revolutionized the field of architecture and earned him a place among the greatest thinkers and artists of the 20th century. Wright is best known for nature-harmonious edifices such as Fallingwater and the Guggenheim Museum.
Iovanna Lloyd Wright, daughter of Wright and his third wife, Olgivanna, was born December 3, 1925. Iovanna was the only child of the architect and Olgivanna, who were married from 1928 until Frank Lloyd Wright's death in 1959. Iovanna grew up in Taliesin in Spring Green, Wisconsin, and Taliesin West in Scottsdale, Arizona. She studied dance and philosophy in Paris in 1949 with G.I. Gurdjieff. When Iovanna returned to the states, she taught classes in dance movement to her father's students at the Taliesin Fellowship, his school for architecture founded in 1932. She created many choreographic works and wrote a number of plays, fusing the two arts into what she called “dance-dramas.” Her dance-dramas were performed yearly during the Taliesin Festival of Music and Dance, with members of the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra providing the music.
Two black and white photographs accompany the check, a striking portrait of Wright and a photograph of the Wright and his apprentices at Taliesin West, as well as sketch of the famous Fallingwater house, in this one-of–a kind presentation.
