Lady Amherst Pheasant Wingshooter Limited Edition Fountain Pen
Eagle Pen Company designed this limited edition Lady Amherst Pheasant fountain pen as an homage to the storied tradition of pheasant hunting. Part of a limited edition of 25 unique pens in the Wingshooter suite, each individual pen is an original 1-of-1 work celebrating game birds. The Lady Amherst Pheasant pen features a cap with a miniature pheasant painting by Lynn Peterson and a complementary body of Huanghuali wood, an ancient flowering pear tree.
Lynn Peterson got her start in the art world painting classic hunting dogs and waterfowl. For this pen, Peterson was inspired by antique Chinese lacquer boxes. The painting incorporates a stunning Lady Amherst Pheasant pair, adorned with 24k gold paint and micas for iridescence. Lady Amherst pheasants are native to southwest China. The English name commemorates Sarah Countess Amherst, wife of William Pitt Amherst, Governor General of Bengal, who was responsible for sending the first specimen of the bird to London in 1828. Lady Amherst introduced the ornamental pheasant on her estates, where the birds were bred and shot for game.
Based on Lynn Peterson's original sketches and color palette for this design, Eagle Pen Company crafted a wooden pen body from Huanghuali. An ancient flowering pear tree in the rosewood family, Huanghuali was harvested to extinction during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It was considered the wood of royalty and was used to make ornate thrones, beds, cups, and tables. The entire pen is sealed with a glassy lacquer, protecting the artwork and wood for generations to come.
