This first edition, fifth printing of Rickenbacker: An Autobiography is signed and dated by the famous pilot. The signature reads, “Eddie Rickenbacker 1968” in black felt-tipped ink on the front free endpaper. The book was published in New Jersey by Prentice-Hall Inc., in December of 1967. It is presented rebound in ¼ blue leather and cloth boards, with raised bands, gilt titles, and gilt tooling to the spine, new marbled endpapers, and a new archival slipcase.
In this autobiography, Rickenbacker gives his personal account of childhood and his pre-war career. He shares his experience as a fighter jet pilot and commander in WWI and discusses his post-war endeavors as an industrialist in the automobile and commercial airline industries. The book ends with his projections for the future of air flight.
Captain Eddie Rickenbacker was the most celebrated U.S. Air Ace of WWI. In a time when aerial battles were novel, Rickenbacker became the nation’s first fighter squadron commander. He accumulated twenty-six victories and led the 94th Aero Pursuit “Hat-in-the-Ring” Squadron as the first all-American fighter squadron to engage in combat.

Overall very good condition. Rebound in ¼ blue leather and cloth boards, with raised bands, gilt titles, and gilt tooling to the spine, new marbled endpapers. The book is signed and dated by Eddie Rickenbacker on the front free endpaper. The inscription is legible and reads “Eddie Rickenbacker 1968” in black felt-tipped ink. The pages are internally clean and bright. The book is illustrated with black and white photographs throughout.
The book is housed in a custom made archival blue slipcase adorned with a photo of a young Rickenbacker in front of a fighter plane.
