Theodore Roosevelt "Square Deal 1904" Bronze Wall Plaque

Sale price$650.00

This is a small President Theodore Roosevelt bronze wall plaque from the early 20th century. The plaque features the bust likeness of the late President Roosevelt in a profile view, with his iconic pince-nez glasses on his nose. Along his jacket lapel are the engraved words “Square Deal 1904.”

In his address to the New York State Agricultural Association on September 7, 1903, Roosevelt said “We must treat each man on his worth and merits as a man. We must see that each is given a square deal, because he is entitled to no more and should receive no less.” Roosevelt promised a government that would serve as an impartial referee between corporations and citizens, providing a “square deal” to all Americans. Those words became a powerful campaign slogan in his 1904 Presidential election race. Once he won that election, Roosevelt enacted those progressive programs, by enacting several key conservation programs, regulating corporations, and protecting consumers.
