Vintage "1776" Brass American Eagle Bookends by Colonial Virginia
This is an appealing set of vintage brass bookends. The bookends each depict a spread-wing bald eagle perched on a rectangular base, stamped with the date “1776.” The bookends were made by Colonial Virginia, a crafter working out of Hampton, Virginia, in 1972.
Eagles have long represented the United States and the bald eagle, in particular, has been the national symbol since 1782. As it is shown here, the eagle looks stoic and majestic. The “1776” stamped base celebrates our nation's independence and founding.
