Vintage Abraham Lincoln Bust Bookends by Philadelphia Manufacturing Co.
Presented is a pair of vintage Lincoln bookends made by the Philadelphia Manufacturing Co. The bookends depict a detailed bust of President Abraham Lincoln, set on square pedestals.
The Lincoln bust is modeled after the 1887 full-length standing bronze by Augustus Saint-Gaudens for Chicago’s Lincoln Park. Saint-Gaudens based Lincoln’s likeness on plaster life casts of the president’s head. Saint-Gaudens was awarded the commission in 1883, largely due to the success and popularity of his earlier Civil War-related projects such as the Farragut Monument in Madison Square Park and the Sherman Monument in Grand Army Plaza, both in New York.
