Byron Nelson (1912–2006) was an American professional golfer and one of the sport's all-time greats. Born in Waxahachie, Texas, he turned professional in 1932 and won 52 PGA Tour events, including five major championships. Known for his fluid swing and sportsmanship both on and off the course, Nelson is most celebrated for his remarkable 1945 season, during which he won 18 PGA Tour tournaments, including an unprecedented 11 consecutive victories. He retired early to focus on his Texas ranch but remained active in golf as a TV commentator and mentor. Nelson was elected to the PGA Hall of Fame in 1953 and to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974.
